This Standard specifies requirements for the movement of loads using overhead handling systems at commercial nuclear facilities.

The goal of this Guideline is to assist the users of ASME NM.3.3 in locating materials in the thermoplastic stress tables, tables of thermoplastic mechanical properties, tables of thermoplastic physical properties, and thermoset data sheets. This Guideline defines the logic used to place materials within these tables.

This specification covers composition, thickness, fabricating procedures, and physical property requirements for glass fiber reinforced thermoset polyester, vinyl ester, or other qualified thermosetting resin laminates comprising the materials of construction for RTP corrosion-resistant tanks, piping, and equipment. This specification is limited to fabrication by contact molding.

NOTE 1—The laminates covered by this specification are manufactured during fabrication of contact molded RTP tanks, piping, and other equipment.

NOTE 2—There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.

This specification covers rigid PVC and CPVC compounds intended for general purpose use in extruded or molded form—including pressure piping applications and nonpressure piping applications—composed of poly(vinyl chloride), chlorinated poly(vinyl chloride), or vinyl chloride copolymers containing at least 80 % vinyl chloride, and the necessary compounding ingredients. The compounding ingredients shall be permitted to consist of lubricants, stabilizers, non-poly(vinyl chloride) resin modifiers, pigments, and inorganic fillers.

NOTE 1—Selection of specific compounds for particular end uses or applications requires consideration of other characteristics such as thermal properties, optical properties, weather resistance, etc. Specific requirements and test methods for these properties should be by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the seller.

NOTE 2—Selection of compounds for pressure piping applications requires consideration of material stress ratings that are required for determining pressure ratings, but are not addressed in this specification. Requirements for long-term material stress ratings in accordance with recognized stress rating standards, such as HDB in accordance with Test Method D2837 for pressure piping, should be included in specifications for pressure piping products or systems.

NOTE 3—The list of compounding ingredients in 1.1 is not meant to be an exhaustive list of allowable compound ingredients. In addition to the compounding ingredients listed, others may also be used. The list of compounding ingredients in 1.1 does not imply that every ingredient listed is a required ingredient. Some compounds may not contain all the ingredients listed in 1.1.

The requirements in this specification are intended for the quality control of compounds used to manufacture finished products. These properties are based on data obtained using standard test specimens tested under specified conditions. They are not directly applicable to finished products. See the applicable ASTM standards for requirements for finished products.

The text of this specification references notes and footnotes that provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shall not be considered as requirements of this specification.

Rigid PVC recycle plastics meeting the requirements of this specification may be used in some applications. Refer to the specific requirements in the materials and manufacture section of the applicable product standard.

(a) This Standard provides requirements for the design, materials, manufacture, fabrication, installation, examination, and testing of glass-fiber-reinforced thermosetting- resin (FRP) piping systems.

(b) FRP piping, as used in this Standard, includes pipe, flanges, bolting, gaskets, valves, fittings, special connecting components, and the pressure-containing or pressure-retaining portions of other piping components, whether manufactured in accordance with references cited in this Standard or specially designed. It also includes hangers and supports and other items necessary to prevent overstressing the pressure-containing components.

(a)This Standard prescribes requirements for the design, materials, fabrication, erection, examination, testing, and inspection of thermoplastic piping systems.

(b) Thermoplastic piping, as used in this Standard, includes pipe, flanges, bolting, gaskets, valves, fittings, special connecting components, and the pressure containing-portions of other piping components, whether manufactured in accordance with standards referenced in this Standard or specially designed. It also includes hangers and supports and other equipment items necessary to prevent overstressing the pressure-containing components.

The ASME BPE Standard provides requirements for systems and components that are subject to cleaning and sanitization and/or sterilization including systems that are cleaned in place (CIP\'d) and/or steamed in place (SIP\'d) and/or other suitable processes used in the manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals.

This Standard also provides requirements for single-use systems and components used in the above listed systems and components. This Standard may be used, in whole or in part, for other systems and components where bioburden risk is a concern.

This Standard applies to
  1. new system (and component) design and fabrication
  2. definition of system boundaries
  3. specific metallic, polymeric, and elastomeric (e.g., seals and gaskets) materials of construction
  4. component dimensions and tolerances
  5. surface finishes
  6. materials joining
  7. examinations, inspections, and testing
  8. certification
This Standard is intended to apply to new fabrication and construction. If the provisions of this Standard are optionally applied by an owner/user to existing, inservice equipment, other considerations may be necessary.

For installations between new construction and an existing, in-service system, such as a retrofit, modification, or repair, the boundaries and requirements must be agreed to among the owner/user, engineer, installation contractor, and inspection contractor.

For a system or component to be BPE-compliant, adherence to all applicable parts of this Standard is required.

This Standard applies to portable power tools for drilling, grinding, polishing, sawing, and driving threaded fasteners, and hand tools for driving threaded fasteners. Other tools not classed as percussion tools belong in this category and may be added by revision or addition through the usual procedure.

This Standard includes dimensions and tolerances for both driving and driven elements where such coordination is important and not established by reference to the pertinent American National Standards. All dimensions are in inches and millimeters.

This Standard covers the complete general and dimensional data for five products in the inch series recognized as an American National Standard. These five structural products include:
(a) Heavy hex structural bolts: ASTM F3125/F3125M;
(b) Heavy hex nuts: ASTM A563 and ASTM A194/A194M;
(c) Hardened steel washers – circular, circular clipped, and beveled: ASTM F436/F436M;
(d) Compressible washer-type direct tension indicators: ASTM F959/F959M;
(e) Twist-off-type structural bolts –heavy hex and round: ASTM F3125/F3125M.
